My heart breaks to learn that Deborah Watling passed this summer.
Deborah was a firecracker, a sassy lady (one of the few people I’ve seen put Frazier Hines in his place!), and truly one of the kindest people I’ve met through Doctor Who.
“Let’s take a picture!” - I will always remember her as in this photo of us from Chicago TARDIS 2014, taken Saturday night after talking over wine (always a dry house white for Deborah).
I take solace knowing she’s in heaven with her daddy and with Patrick Troughton, but it’s still a sad shock to know she’s gone.
"Frazer was very protective, on set and off. Even now we’ll meet at a convention and he’ll say, ‘Awww, Little Debs,’ before giving me a cuddle. To which I’ll say, 'Fraze, I’m over 60 now, you can stop that!’"

when people tell me Classic Who didn’t have sexy characters
I just
What
ARE WE WATCHING THE SAME SHOW?!
APPARENTLY NOT
‘cause
they’re so
nnnnngh
and don’t even get me started on the Doctor
It’s not my intention to objectify anyone but have you seen Deborah Watling back in the day? Victoria Waterfield was a total babe. I mean, Leela had the advantage of the costume but Deborah Watling was just a classic beauty.
(Adding another photo of Victoria Waterfield because there’s never enough Deborah Watling, am I right?)
And Jon Pertwee was the James Bond of the Doctors. If he isn’t considered sexy then I don’t know who could be.
I am sure that Deborah Watling is the sweetest person I have ever fortuitously ran into at a bar and just casually chatted with. Seriously, so, so genuinely sweet and gracious and kind. A true national treasure.
